Katharina Oguntoye
It's great to see that you can actually make a difference.
The non-profit organization JOLIBA eV has been supporting African and Afro-German families with its work since 1997, advocates for African refugees and promotes intercultural coexistence and mutual understanding between people. The organization implements these goals with a variety of educational and cultural events and workshops on various aspects of African and black history and culture in Germany. The ongoing offers for children and parents include social counseling, the sewing workshop, parent-child groups, themed children's afternoons as well as workshops and lectures on topics such as interculturality, racism and discrimination.
Intercultural network in Berlin
For African and Afro-German families.
JOLIBA eV is an important contact point for BIPOC, refugees from different countries and African families in Berlin. JOLIBA eV helps hundreds of people seeking help every year with family support and accompanying social counseling.
JOLIBA's mission statement
Promote intercultural coexistence.
For over 25 years, our work has been aimed at promoting and supporting a Black community in Berlin and beyond. Our work is aimed at promoting intercultural coexistence for Black people and creating access to safer spaces. Black people have been part of German society for centuries. At the same time, we are aware of the Berlin-specific challenges facing communities, which are caused by historical and current political developments. JOLIBA respects and strengthens differences as well as similarities, in the team and in the work with clients. With JOLIBA, we want to promote and develop spaces that are free of violence, discrimination and exclusion.
We aim to act in a culturally sensitive, intersectional and (language-) barrier-free manner and work with the aim of promoting a network and breaking down isolation. The focus is particularly on children and young people in order to enable them and their parents to participate sustainably and actively and to pave the way for their best possible development.
We strive to take responsibility by practicing empathy, acceptance, appreciation and transcultural exchange in our work with one another.
